Thursday, October 31 2013

After a successful 2 year trajectory in Spain and 250,000 users later, Womenalia continues its international expansion, which it began in July with the launch of the US site.

Womenalia.com's first stops in Latin America are Colombia and Mexico. These sites will feature special content tailored to the needs of local entrepreneurs and career women.
Here's a bit of insight into the reality of professional women in these countries:

Women represent only 38% of the workforce in Mexico, however, Mexico is at the forefront when it comes to bridging the gender pay gap. In Mexico women earn an average of 8.8% less then Mexican men, well below the global average of 16-22%.

In Mexico, women who are a part of the Labor Force (Población Economicamente Activa) total around 19.5 million, of which 13 million are working moms.

In Colombia there are more than 28 million women. According to data from the National Statistics Bureau (DANE), 49% of them are in the workforce and 20% are actively working.

According to WEVentureScope, women account for less than 9% of boards of the top 100 Colombian companies. This is the equivalent of 0.46 of a member for each company.

The salary gap is in Colombia is an alarming sign of inequality as it ranges between 16-33% depending on the sector.
