In this week’s news, what was once the world’s largest mobile phone provider, Nokia, was acquired by Microsoft Corp. as Microsoft attempts to strengthen its position as a mobile hardware player against rivals such as Apple and Samsung.

And speaking of tech gadgets, a study published by Stacy Wood, a professor of marketing at North Carolina State University in The Journal of Product Innovation Management shows those professionals who want to be seen as leaders should be investing their time and money in the latest technology and innovations.

"Familiarity with and usage of new high-tech products appears to be a common manifestation of innovative behavior," the study's authors wrote. "Those who are tech-savvy are also perceived as authoritative on other subjects and as leaders."

And it seems Women benefit more from these perceptions than men in their usage of high tech. "This finding runs counter to the backlash effect typically found in impression management research in business settings," the researchers wrote. "Female job evaluations typically suffer after engaging in the same self-promoting impression management strategies that benefit their male counterparts."

So time to start brushing off your productivity apps and reading up on the latest tech trends it seems!
